Thistlestar Meets Eagleclaw
Thistlepaw trotted along the path, eager to go and help the medicine cats in gathering herbs. He understands that it was supposed to be a punishment for not listening to his mentor but he loved to help out all those who need it. As he entered the medicine den, he noticed the medicine cat, Dewmoon, was talking to two cats, curled alongside a kit who was shivering and coughing. Thistlepaw quietly waited at the entrance for Dewmoon to be done with his conversation, not wanting to disturb.
Once Dewmoon was done, he turned to go help other the other cats when hhe noticed the apprentice. “Ah, Thistlepaw, I’ve run out of dock leaves. There is a patch on the outskirts of camp, by the side of the Earth Stone,” Dewmoon says quickly, scurrying around the den, gathering what he needs to help the next cat, before shooing Thistlepaw out of the den.
Thistlepaw is forced out before he can even say another word and walks away go and find some dock leaves for the medicine cat. He trots down the path that leads to the Earth Stone. As he was nearing the edge of the camp, he could hear the soft cry of another cat. The closer he got to the border, the louder it became. “Hello?” he called out cautiously, unsure of who he was hearing.
Nobody responded to his call, but as he passed the Earth Stone, he noticed a small tail poking out from behind it. Going round the other side so he did not scare the kit, he called out again, quieter this time: “Are you okay?”
The little head of a calico poked out from behind the stone. “Hi…” the kit squeaked as tears rolled down her face.
Thistlepaw walked over to the kit and sat down in front of her. “What are you doing out here all alone? It’s very far from the dens.”
There was a moment of silence where the kit appeared to have stopped crying, before starting again. “’m lost,” she wailed. “My bwother was playing chase with me but he ran off and I cant keep up! And… and…he didn’t even notice!”
“Hey, hey. It’s okay! I can take you back to your parents. I’m sure they are very worried,” Thistlepaw responds, shifting around on his paws, eyeing up the patch of dock leaves just ahead of them.
“Nu-uh, they only care for my stupid sick sister and not me or my bwother,” the kit says, curling up into a ball to face away from him.
Thistlepaw looked around, hoping that another cat would be nearby but unluckily for him, there wasn’t. “Hey, how about you help me with a super special job,” Thistlepaw suggests to the kit.
Her ears perked up at that, as she turns to face him. “Special job?”
“Yeah, a super special job that I think you can help me with,” Thistlepaw replies cheerfully.
The kit leaps up and eagerly agrees. “Yes, yes yes,” she chirps hoping up and down. “I can help, I can, I can.”
Thistlepaw leads the kit out from behind the rock, towards the path of dock leaves. “I’m looking for some leaves. They are round and feel rough but I cannot seem to find them.”
The kit eagerly looks around, before picking up different leaves and showing them to Thistlepaw as he shakes his head at each one. After a few attempts, she finally picks a dock leaf and shows it to Thistlepaw. “How about this?” She says excitedly.
Thistlepaw smiled widely, before leaping up. “Yes, that’s exactly what I was looking for! Oh wow, you’ve found a whole patch of them!”
The kit looked down at where she was stood before looking back up at Thistlepaw with a beaming smile on her face. “Come on, let’s gather as many as we can and you can help me take them back,” Thistlepaw says eagerly.
Carrying a bunch of docks in his mouth, Thistlepaw walked back to the camp with the kit eagerly on his trail. As they got closer to the medicine den, the kit spoke up: “I’m asdkhjs.” Thistlepaw couldn’t really tell what she tried to say around a mouth of dock leaves.
“’hat ‘as that?” he asked, turning his head to look at her.
“I’m eaglekit,” the kit says.
“ ‘m Thistlepaw,” he says in response to the kit.
As he entered the den, he placed the dock leaves down at his feet, encouraging Eaglekit to do the same. He waits before Dewmoon notices him. When he does, the medicine cat walks over and gathers up the herbs. “Took you long enough,” he mutters, moving the herbs to his piles of other herbs.
“Eaglekit, what on earth are you doing here, you should be with Hawkkit!” Thistlepaw hears a cat exclaim from behind him. Turning around, he noticed that it was the she-cat from before, the one with the sick kit. “You are so disobedient! I told you to stay with your brother in the den! You are neither with your brother or in the den!”
Thistlepaw decides to step in before it turned into a full argument. “I’m sorry, that was my fault! She was helping me gather herbs,” he says with a smile on his face, tucking his head downwards.
“Well, do your own chores, you lazy brat! You don’t need to drag a kit into it!” The she-cat shrieks.
The tom continued to lie next to the sick kit, ignoring the commotion that his mate was causing. Eaglekit spoke up again, “No! It was my fault. I got lost and hid under a rock!”
The she-cat huffed before deciding it was not for arguing about. “Just go, both of you!”
Thistlepaw took his leave, not wanting to cause a bigger scene, as Eaglekit follows him.
“I’m sorry,” says Eaglekit. “She does carry more about robinkit that me or my bwother.”
“Your sister is sick. She just wants to make sure she gets better,” Thistlepaw responds, walking back to the Queen den to make sure that Eaglekit gets there safely.
“She’s always sick though!” Eaglekit huffed before noticing another kit in the distance. “There he is! Bye mister!”
That was her parting words as she rushed away to the kit who Thistlepaw assumed was her brother.
