Personality
Ashmask has always been a friendly cat, who wasn’t purposefully mean to anyone, but he was cold, preferring to push others away so that he does not get hurt. The tom has severe abandonment issues due to him being left behind by his first and only friend during kithood. This has left him untrusting of other cats, fearing that they will hurt him in the same way that his childhood friend did. However, he is also uncertain towards the other cats, unsure on their motives towards him, not believing that they could want to be his friend.
This uncertainty has led Ashmask to live a very solitary life, being seen as a cat that prefers to work alone, even during times that he probably should work with someone else. However, he believes that the less friends that he has, the less likely he is to be hurt again.
However, the cats that get the honour of calling themselves his friend know that they have a friend for life. Ashmask gives the cats he calls his friends his trust and heart, seeing them as his family, even though it is not through blood. He has a strong sense of honour, dedicating his life to being a warrior, protecting the clan with his life. He sees his work as a distraction towards the fear of failure that consumes him.

History
Ashmask was born to a half-clan relationship with his mother, Stormwhisper, being a member of Thornclan while his father, Speckle, wasn’t. Despite this, Ashmask was close with his father and would often be taken secretly to meet him by his mother – without the leader of the clan, Duskstar, knowing.
The tom was friendly with many other kits, including Sunkit and Crowkit, but his openness and friendliness changed when his best friend, Crowkit, went missing the month before the start of his apprenticeship. Ashmask shut everyone out, including his friend Sunkit, no longer being the kind and open cat that he once was. Sunkit began to bully him in anger.
During his apprenticeship, his mentor, Mudnose, would continuously try to get him to open up but Ashmask refused to open up about his feelings and fears with his mentor and instead chose to shut him out repeatedly. As time passed, he grew more open with Mudnose and realised that the cat was just as much a friend as a mentor. At one point, Ashmask fell in love with the tom, but his mentor told him that while he loved him as a dear friend, it wasn’t anything more than that.
As Ashmask became a warrior, he realised that his old mentor was his best friend and while they had no obligations to be around each other, Ashmask realised that he enjoyed spending time with the older tom. So, Ashmask and Mudnose remained strong friends. The tom opened up around more people the more confident he becomes in himself, and chose to accept Brightlight, Mudnose’s mate, as a friend. The trio ended up becoming close friends, having each other’s backs.
