The Robin Flies
Robinsong quietly stepped up, breathing heavily as she prepared herself to accept her new position in the clan. The clan lay silent, staring up at the ledge that stood the leader of her clan, standing centre stage, addressing the cats that crowded round to see her take over the position that she had been granted. The day brought along great promises as the sun shone brighter than any other day of Greenleaf, and the little calico she-cat prayed that it was a sign from the ancestors that Thistlestar had made the right decision, that she did have what it took to be deputy, to eventually be leader. Robinsong had always wanted to be leader, and she was so close, but yet, having to give it up once Eagleclaw resumes to her duties tired her, reminding her that it was only a temporary position of power that she was granted.
The she-cat took another step forward, taking a deep breath, knowing that if she took this step, she knew what she’d be receiving, a false promise of leadership. Robinsong took a step onto the ledge, walking forward to meet Thistlestar.
“Are you ready?” Thistlestar asked quietly to Robinsong so that the clan cannot hear what they are saying. Robinsong looked at the tom, trying to hide her nerves as she nodded sharply, holding herself high. She wants to make her family proud, so that she is not the weak kit that she once was. Her leader walked back towards the centre of the ledge as Robinsong follows, continuing to hold her head up high.
Thistlestar looked over to Robinsong, smiling at her before returning to face the clan. “I say these words before the ancestors so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of Thornclan is Robinsong.”
There was a moment of silence before a swift gust of wind blasted through the two cats but Robinsong held her ground, holding her head high as the wind died down. “I will protect Thornclan with my life and promise that you and the ancestors won’t regret your trust in me,” Robinsong announced to the crowd, lowering her head in respect, as she waited in silence for a moment before hearing no objections, raising her head high as Thistlestar continued making announcements
