Task 5: How did the first member of your clan join?
In the initial set up of the clan, Little Flower and White Feather lived in a nomadic lifestyle with The Clan of Thorns. They would continuously move around, refusing to stay in one place in fear of the other clans. So, recruiting cats to join a clan that does not have strong roots was a challenge. Cats did not want to join a clan where their safety would not be ensured, especially since they would have to move around continuously.
Therefore, it was a surprise to the duo when they found the first cat who was willing to give him a chance. Little Flower and White Feather had been strolling through the twoleg place when they had encountered a street cat who was looking for a fight, accusing them of being in his territory. The only thing that stopped it from breaking out into a fight was Pear, a tall apricot tom who broke up the fight, shooing away the street cat. He invited the duo to join him in a safe place for a while and they exchanged stories. The duo found out that pear was only a street cat because his clan refused to let him be a medicine cat, trying to force him into being a warrior. He wasn’t the violent type, instead called himself a mediator. He was offered a place in The Clan of Thorns as their healer, the rank that would later become Medicine Cat.
When Pear Bush accepted his role as healer, he knew what he would be giving up and how he would have no sense of security out in the world with no place to call home. However, he chose to accept the circumstances knowing that eventually they’d settle and after hearing what the clan stood for (acceptance and love), realised that the clan was perfect for his beliefs.
Pear chose to return to his warrior name Pear Bush as a sign of respect to the clan that he left as well as a way to remember why he left the clan. He spent his days gathering herbs as they wandered so that if they would fall sick or injured, it would not be a struggle to heal the small clan. In fear of his death, Pear Bush chose to teach the basics of herbs and healing to Little Flower and White Feather in case he dies without an apprentice or becomes sick and needs their help.
The tom was a loyal member of the clan until his death and even after, returning as one of the first cats to deliver prophecies.
