8 Lives Left
The chattering outside the medicine den made it impossible for the medicine cat to work in peace. Outside the den, there was a collection of worried cats, waiting to hear of Thistlestar’s condition after he suddenly fell sick overnight.
There was the light howl of wind as Bluemoon stepped out of the den. “I need anyone who isn’t family to continue on with their duties,” Bluemoon announces to the crowd, who angrily turn and walk away, leaving just Hollowglare and Briargrove as they watched Bluemoon impatiently.
Bluemoon sighs, turning to address the two she-cats. “There is nothing new unfortunately. We are doing what we can. I promise that I will tell you as soon as there is anything new,” the blue cat says sadly, before reentering her den.
She padded over to the sick cat, grabbing some herbs along the way that will bring down his fever. She crushed them in her paws as she passes them over, but Thistlestar just turns his head away, coughing then grunting in pain. “Please, just take them.”
The leader looks her at before turning his head away, curling up into a ball. Bluemoon just sighed, leaving the herbs in front of the tom for if he decides to take them. She goes on to help the injured cats that would accept her help instead of the stubborn old leader.
As Bluemoon wraps the paw of an injured warrior, she hears a coughing fit in the corner of her vision, turning around and seeing Thistlestar continuing to cough. She trotted over, standing next to her leader. “Please, let me help you.”
However, before she could do anything, Thistlestar had collapsed, starting to drift away. “No, I can help you,” she says, rushing over and grabbing any herb she could reach. “I can help you.”
By the time she mixed something up, Thistlestar was lying still. Then, for a brief moment, an ancestor appears in front of her fallen leader, placing their forehead against his. “Now, you can help,” they say, looking at Bluemoon.
Bluemoon rushes over, quickly passing the herbs over for her leader to take so he doesn’t lose another life. She sighs in relief when he eats the herbs that she mixed and pops outside to tell Hollowglare and Briargrove of the news.
